History
Formed in 1994, Nic de Mey Yachts started out building carbon prepreg rowing skiffs, ski race boats, weapon systems for the Australian Navy, and superyacht components such as carbon booms, boarding, and swim ladders.
Our first custom yacht build was a sailing cat called Silver Raider built in 1995, which dominated the Auckland multihull scene for many years. From there it was an upward progression into larger and more complex vessels all utilizing advanced composite construction. Our largest project to date is U21, a 21mtr foiling catamaran for renowned NZ businessman Graeme Hart.
Over the company’s 25-year history, Nic de Mey Yachts has become one of New Zealand’s premium boat-building companies. With a committed team of passionate boat builders and top-quality facilities in his Tauranga-based workshop, Nic de Mey builds world-class boats for clients across the World.

About Nic
Nic is a qualified boatbuilder who began his career with an apprenticeship at Marten Marine Industries, a renowned builder of race and luxury yachts. Here, he trained under experts in advanced composite construction, working on America's Cup and Whitbread/Volvo Ocean Race boats before moving on to superyacht projects, mastering both systems and finishes.
A passionate boat racer, Nic has competed in New Zealand's water ski racing circuit since 1994 and has represented New Zealand at World Championship events.
Nic established Nic de Mey Yachts in Auckland before relocating with his wife Chrissy and their three children, Zhané, Lexie, and Nixon, to Tauranga, his hometown.
"Moving to Tauranga allows me to continue building some of New Zealand’s finest boats while spending time with my family. When I’m not in the workshop, I enjoy exploring the outdoors with them – fishing, diving, and water skiing on New Zealand’s beautiful waters."
